1 . A good weave install always starts with a great braid down.

Hair braiding is an art. There are numerous ways of braiding down your hair and is all depends on the type of install you are getting. Personally I am a fan of the circle braid, however, not everyone can use it. The circle braid technique enables a versatile install that you can wear up in a high ponytail, but you need to have at least 3 inches of hair to use that method successfully.

2. The great wave is all about great hair quality.

The quality of the hair is crucial for a successful weave install. I encourage my clients to see it as a long-term investment. Good hair quality lasts for a long time and can be re-used for a year or longer if maintained properly. Bad, low-quality hair seems to be popping up everywhere these days and unfortunately, there is no such thing as good cheap hair.

3. Scientific structure of wavy hair

Naturally wavy hair develops its structure from the shape of the cortex. The fibers of wavy hair are oval-shaped, making it mostly round, but twisting ever so slightly upon the other follicle. Wavy hair is also determined by its protein structure. Wavy hair has a light to medium amount of the disulfide bonds that occur between hair proteins. It also has a slight hook at the end of the follicle, which makes it grow at a minimal angle. In some cases, hormones and certain medications can change the texture of the virgin hair bundles with closure, making it grow in a different way than it was originally formed.

4. Styling Wavy Hair

Give it something to play with. The hair identity crisis will be gone as soon as you take a “glass half full” mentality and experiment with styles to match your mood. Wear it straight if you want to feel put-together, keep it natural and use some leave-in conditioner, and bust out the curling wand if you want an extra bounce.

5. Treat your weaves and your own hair differently

When weaves are installed properly, they really look like your own natural hair. The weaves give your own hair a well-deserved rest from exposure to sun, styling, products etc, that why it is referred to as protective styling. I always recommend my clients to treat they own hair and the waves as two separate entities. If you have a left out, you should be more careful with it than with the weaves and use low temps on styling tools and a heat protector before styling it.

6. Put your weaves to sleep

A key to maintaining beautiful weaves is to wrap it up before going to sleep or sleep on a satin pillow case. Believe it or not, cotton bed sheets can really mess up and dry out your hair. I usually twist my hair into a bun and wear a turban cap before going to bed. This way my weave looks great every morning and I even save time on styling.
